Biomim-Greenloop Biomim-Greenloop is a young SME, based in Brussels. Our team of consultants is dedicated to developing eco-innovative solutions and strategies using biomimicry tools to support private and public organizations in their transition towards sustainability. Our activities are split in two domains: - Consultancy for private and public organizations: Greenloop provides strategic guidance for organizations that wish to become more resilient towards current challenges that are climate change, raw material costs increase, resource scarcity, etc. Our guidance consists of a methodology that we developed, and that is inspired from The Natural Step and Biomimicry. Our multidisciplinary team composed of engineers, PhDs in biology and microbiology and business experts enables us to generate eco-innovative products and services for our clients. - Research activities: Greenloop is leader of the design and approval by the European Commission of the CO2Solstock FP7 projec |
Using the biomimetic approach to set up an R&D project on CO2 sequestration In order to address the climate change challenge, the co-founder of Biomimicry Europa and the Belgian SME Biomim-Greenloop -Gauthier Chapelle and Jean Valayer- applied biomimicry principles to propose sustainable alternatives to the current Carbon Concentration and Sequestration (CCS) techniques. Their approach enabled to identify a carbon sequestration opportunity based on the properties of microorganisms to mineralize carbon dioxide. As a result, the R&D FP7 EU funded CO2SolStock project was launched in 2009, with the overall objective of proposing more sustainable and stable carbon sequestration techniques as alternatives to the current CCS technology. Four universities, the University of Lausanne, Technical University of Delft, the University of Granada and the University of Edinburgh have joined Biomim-Greenloop in this effort. Planned to end in March 2012, the project is now entering a more intense dissemination phase.
